Kindred women is an initiative designed by Sarah Valentini, Nikki Valentini and Rebecca Fleming, to support and empower women to navigate perimenopause and menopause through yoga, meditation, homeopathy and nutrition.
The desire to share information on alternative ways of supporting yourself through perimenopause and menopause was born in recognition of a gap in the conversation about this major life transition. Traditional conventional methods of HRT, hysterectomy, antidepressants and the Mirena capture the attention of most women, and are considered the only option for relief of symptoms. These approaches sadly do not consider the totality of the emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of perimenopause and menopause.
We are passionate about educating women on the other effective options that can be accessed in supporting women. Our approaches are evidence based and truly holistic.
The aim of Kindred Women is:
- Nurture – the workshops and retreats provide space and time for discussion and thought. Each woman has a chance to share and be heard! You don’t need to do anything for anyone else.. all is provided.. The importance of creating this time for yourself is paramount to having a smooth transition through perimenopause. Rebecca leads sessions on yoga and meditation to ensure that you leave feeling lighter and more peaceful. All yoga sessions provide insight into helpful postures for specific symptoms associated with hormonal changes.
- Nourish – delicious wholefood meals with an eye on foods that support women through perimenopause and menopause. Nutritional information on these foods as well as a discussion on the important nutritional hormonal and physical requirements in perimenopause. Nikki leads a session on gut health and our emotional connections to the gut, followed by a fermented food workshop – making your own sauerkraut to take home.
- Inform – What is happening during this transition? Most women don’t understand the hormonal symphony that enables us to menstruate, procreate and take us through the final transition of perimenopause. The rhythms of this important symphony change during perimenopause, to their finale after menopause is achieved. Though we are always in rhythm as women, if we are blinded to the importance of this rhythm, then we lose the ebb and flow of ourselves. Sarah discusses the nuts and bolts of the hormonal changes, the physiology, as well as homeopathic and nutritional supplements that can be helpful for symptoms and women. Sarah also brings to light the emotional and spiritual questions that arise during this time. About what comes next!
